 Hand Wrought Skewer Holder

Skewers are wrought iron rods or blades that were used to secure meat to the spit for roasting. They were hung from "holders" at the hearthside.  In today's marketplace, discovering an original period wrought iron meat skewer is a find, let alone the holder along with it. It was a thrilling find for me and certainly will add a special place for some experienced collector in his/her collection. These both date from the 1700's and are true survivors.

Presented here  is a simply elegant wall mounted wrought iron double arm skewer holder with 3 long tapering flat skewers plus a matching 4th one that was left "in the round".  The bracket design for the wall mount is quite unique and therefore provides a decorative quality that is very pleasing.  All in all a fine marriage of form and function.  The piece measures 16 inches from the top of the bracket to the tip of the skewer.
