 Red Oval Hersey Box

Red Oval Hersey Box, 6" long x 4-1/2" wide x 2-1/2" high.  Signed BFH (Bela Hersey, 1817-1879, Son of Cotton Hersey).  The box retains a very fine surface and nicely oxidized Red paint that is now a dark Cranberry color.  Red is very desirable as most boxes we find, when we can find them are painted green.

The box lid has the name E. Howes scratched into the top.  Presumably the owner.  Structurally sound with only some minor loss to the top edge of the box which is concealed by the lid and mentioned for the sake of accuracy. There is also a tight line on the back of the lid, most likely caused from frequent opening and closing as the lid fits tightly.
