 Brass Studded Leather Box

This very fine traveling box made its first trip in the early 1700's.  Its fine construction details are many.  Made as a fine piece of furniture with superior leather crafting and fine period hardware,  it also was treated with great respect allowing it to reach today in such pristine condition.  Originally there was a handle at each end where the three tacks would have held the strap ends inserted thru the four slits.  The lid was attached by means of the back leather covering extending up and under the lids leather cover. With 2 plus centuries of use, the leather parted.  New hinges have given a new lease on life to this mini-"treasure" chest. Note the paper (original) lining to the entire chest.  Please continue the gentle care. 9" long x 5-1/2" wide x 5-7/8" high.
