Champleve` Inkwell
This lovely little c. 1900 inkwell is Champleve`, a process that consists of cutting cells or channels in a metal plate. The raised metal lines form the design and are then filled with colorful pulverized vitreous enamel. This urn shaped inkwell sits on a saucer base with irregularly formed feet. The hinged lid has a ball finial and the inkwell retains its original glass insert. It is small, 3 5/8" x 4 1/4" x 2 1/2" tall but it is impressive in its design and execution.
