Toggle Harpoon
Early (18th Century) hand forged Toggle Harpoon with forged pointed spring to insure opening of the toggle within the whale, also forged and attached by a rivet at the broad end of the spring . . . very unusual! A second rarity is the 4" of remaining rope work at the shaft end showing the complex pattern of fastening the line to the harpoon in lieu of an iron ring or loop forged to the harpoon itself as in later designs. This harpoon would be unique to the majority of collections. It is in very fine condition and measures 23 inches long. F11L01036 059 Questions? Ask the Ferret!
