Pair of Portrait Miniatures of Twins

Presented here, a RARE matched pair of Portrait Miniatures on Ivory of Twin Girls. They are  circa 1830-40, judging by the dress and hairstyle and appear to be girls in their late teens.  How they have stayed together all these years boggles the mind but, here they are!

They are housed in their original lemon gold frames and are absolutely stunning!  The portraits are in perfect condition and the frames display them very nicely in a stepped, shadowbox effect. Their origin is from the Philadelphia or Chester County area.  When I examined these out of the frame I found an inked sketch of each, made by the artist prior to painting the portrait.  As an added bonus, the sitters are identified in pencil on the bottom of the frame as Elizabeth and Emma.  There are subtle differences that the artist has captured showing the individual personalities of the girls.  Elizabeth, on the right, glances upward and appears almost shy, while Emma leans toward the artist with confidence and a more open demeanor.

They measure 7-1/2 x 8" (framed) and 2-1/4" x 3" (sight).  They are lovely to say the least and I rather doubt one would have the opportunity to buy such a wonderful pair of Miniatures again.
