Painted Treen Covered Spice Cup

Presented here a rare little Poplar Painted Red, Yellow and Green Spice Cup . . . a mere 2.75 inches high.  (4 inches high with the lid and 3 inches in diameter).

It names ELIZABETH SHEELY and is dated 1859 . . .  Pennsylvania, Mahantongo Valley.  The background is red, the striping is green, the stylized flowers are alternately mustard and green and the heart is mustard which points to the possibility that this was a wedding present or at the very least, a gift for Elizabeth.  The surface is exceptional and wear is minimal. A survivor and a wonderful example of Folk Art.
