Presented here, an exquisite Folk Art work by E. B. Cunningham to Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham - March 1879. It combines the fine work of the calligrapher with the floral elements of the then-popular Watercolor Theorems on paper.
The verse reads:
When this you see remember me,
When this you look upon,
Wrote by my hand and it will stand,
When I am dead and gone.
On a lighter note it says . . . Be Good and you will be Happy. There is also a medallion at the top that reads:
Written
and Presented
Mr. and Mrs Cunningham
by E. B. Cunningham
March 1879
The thematic content, fine work and condition merit the often over-worked classification of "Museum Quality". In this case it is clearly no exaggeration. A period mahogany frame with gold liner and original glass completes this lovely presentation. Sight size is 21" x 18 1/2" with the frame adding another 2 1/2" on all sides. The condition is excellent.
