English Prattware Lion Plaque, circa 1780-1820.
Executed in strong, bold, earthy colors with little subtlety but a redeeming charm and naivete` so typical of Prattware. Lead oxide glaze tinged w/blue. This underglaze technique protected the colors under a transparent glaze that retained the brilliance of the piece. An identical piece is in the Nelson Athens Museum of Art in Kansas City, MO. Ref. Prattware by Lewis, p. 213.
Size is 11-1/2" long and 9" tall.
