Scrimshaw Rolling Pin

Presented here, an early 19th C. Scrimshaw Rolling Pin made of Rosewood and inlaid with Whale Ivory and Ebony.  The ring into which the Ivory "dots" are inlaid is made of Black Walnut.

These are one of the top items for the advanced Scrimshaw collector - A "Labor of Love" for the homesick whaler as well as a most utilitarian device.  On those long whaling voyages thoughts turned to the comforts of home and things homemade.  Certainly pies and crackers headed that list!  This Rolling Pin excels from a design standpoint with function defining form, while the aesthetic beauty is in the materials used and the thought behind the gift.
