Rare English Pearlware Mochaware Wash Basin
Presented here, a fabulous and RARE Mocha Wash Basin. It is absolutely outrageous! The interior is banded in brown/black with a looping dark brown, rust, blue and cream Earthworm decoration with one cat's eye on a Marine Blue ground, beneath green-glazed rouletting in a beaded pattern. The exterior is banded in dark brown and black with a looping dark brown, rust and blue Earthworm decoration with one "Oyster" on a taupe ground. The diameter is 12" and the bowl is 4-1/8" tall.

The condition is high outstanding with the only thing needing to be mentioned for the sake of accuracy are several flakes on the table ring and one bit of blue paint on the green rouletted rim, but hey folks, we're not talking Limoge here!

As far as Mocha goes this is considered to be a very RARE form . . . one seldom encountered in this condition. Some basins have matching pitchers, but some were not sold as a set, according to Jonathan Rickard, who is writing a book on mocha. The exuberant earthworm decoration makes this a very desirable object. As a point of reference, a bowl and pitcher set sold in August, 2004 at Northeast Auctions for $33,000!
