Watercolor Portrait of a Young Boy Presented here, a wonderful Full Length American School Watercolor Portrait of a Young Boy with hat in hand, overlooking a busy harbor. The subject matter suggests perhaps that he is a cabin boy on one of the vessels and has now returned home from a voyage. It is a very well rendered portrait with good attention to detail. There is a far away look on the boy's face as he gazes off across the water. It is a beautiful composition and very well executed in a medium that is unforgiving. Condition is excellent. The portrait, c.1830-40's, is framed in a mustard and red painted frame with old bubbly glass. It is not as bright as it appears in the picture, but more subdued and compliments the painting beautifully. (Reflection of the flash). Size is 7-3/4" high x 5-1/2" wide (sight) and 11-1/4" x 8-3/4" overall.
