Lollipop Butter Print

Side Handled Butter Prints or "Lollipop" Butter Prints are not that commonly found. They are early, before the lathe turned prints and fashioned out of one piece of wood, as this one is.  The primary function of the handle was to furnish a means of hanging up the print.

Made of walnut, the deeply carved border is composed of hatch marks and four triangles. The print itself is composed of five concentric hearts, a popular motif among the Pennsylvania Germans. It is nicely patinated, showing good color and good age, circa 1750-1820,  Pennsylvania.
Size: 7-1/4" long with the print itself being 2-27/8" in diameter.  Condition is excellent.
