Builder's Half Hull

Presented here, a fine mid 1800 s Builder s Half Hull. It is composed of eight pine lifts on pegs retaining its original backboard. It has an unusual length to beam ration of about 2.5 to 1, giving it a broad beam and relatively shallow draft . . . Most likely an offshore sail powered working vessel for harvesting the bounty of catches available in years long gone. Hard, honest work for men of the same kind.

The original mounting holes in the backboard are evidence of its having been screwed to the wall. This in turn would indicate, as was often typical, that it was displayed with pride in the boat yard in which it was built rather than ending up in the yard office stove to soften the chill of a Maine winter, thereby escaping the fate of many half hulls which were perhaps less worthy of being displayed.

100% authentic with a character fairly unique for a half hull. It has really been there, about 150 year ago. Dimensions are 34-1/2" long and 10-1/2" high (Backboard).
