 Wrought Iron Hook Rack

Presented here, a very special Hand Wrought Iron Hook Rack featuring 2 Love Birds perched on a Heart.  Dating from the 18th Century, it most likely was a special order piece that was given as a wedding gift or a gift to a loved one.

The kitchen hearth was the heart of the country home. The woman spent the major part of her day at the hearth and so when the new bride set up her kitchen, items such as ladles and skimmers, iron spatulas and tasting forks were a necessity in order for her to prepare the food for the family. This rack could be used to hold those utensils at the hearth so they would be within easy reach of the cook.  It also could have been used hang drying herbs that were used in the preparation of the meal or even a betty lamp to provide light to work by.

The rack, which has 6 hooks measures @12 inches long. It is beautifully and stoutly made and is in excellent condition. The patina is outstanding!  Obviously a treasured belonging that was well cared for over the years.
