Red Oval Pantry Box . . . The top and bottom are white pine, the opposing laps are ash, fastened with four wooden pegs and hand-cut iron tacks. The painted surface shows some wear due to age and usage and a bit of discoloration on the top is mentioned for the sake of accuracy. All in all the surface patination is very good and the light spots on the rim are the camera playing tricks. The top fits snugly and the shape is more rectangular than oval which points to a Hingham origin, most likely an early Hersey Box. L 5-3/8" W 4-1/8" H 2-1/4".
A lovely little box in great paint, from a private collection.
