HOPI Kachina Effigy called the BLUE STAR KACHINA is a Spirit who portends the end of mankind s civilization in the Hopi Culture. He is called SAKWAHOTE in the Hopi language. The dancers would dress like Sakwahote and call upon him as the Great Spirit who would lead them through the coming Apocalypse when all life on earth ends. Hopi culture further states that this will be the FOURTH time that the earth has undergone this transformation since time began. The culture states that the BLUE STAR would first be seen, and he would come to earth and speak to the people about the coming end of all mankind. The Hopi culture was full of these IMMORTALS, and as part of their culture children would receive these carved and painted figures as a sacred toy to help them identify with Hopi Culture. Most of these dolls were in the 5" to 8" range. This one is most unusual in that it is much bigger (17" tall), and meant NOT for a child but for a NEW BRIDE!!! On her wedding day the bride would be given this piece to bolster her commitment for living a pure life. The culture states that he, Sakwahote, would live among the people until the time of the YELLOW STAR (Sikyahote/A Hote), whose arrival would portend the doom to all mankind except for all those pure in spirit who would be taken to a secret, underground location until the earth was ready to be habitable again. When the Blue Star dances, some say it is Sirius, and it will signify the end of the fourth world and the emergence of the fifth world. They believe there will be a Day of Purification during the catastrophic events as the present world ends. Those who continue on will be pure of heart and work for World Peace for all people. The attached photos say all there is about the piece. As to the Bride's Effigy this is a wonderful example of the Blue Star Spirit and has great paint (obviously mostly blue) and is in a great state of preservation. It stands head and shoulders above a young girl s doll version and is a great rarity with great presence. The only thing missing is a small rattle in his right hand which is lost to the ages. Dated to the 1920-30 period, it is a true survivor who has resided in a private collection for the last 50 years. Price on Request Questions? Ask the Ferret!
