 Iron Bird Roaster

Early 18th Century Wrought Iron, Floor-Standing Adjustable Bird or Meat Roaster in great old surface color and patina.  New England or Pennsylvania, Circa 1720-1780. An early form with a single-spring adjustable bell-shaped plate with five attached two-tine hooks. The hand drawn iron shaft tapers from the top to a three-legged base that terminates in flattened "penny" feet that offers great stability to the piece.  The entire piece retains an old stove black and bees-wax surface and patina.

Condition is wonderful with no repairs or losses. The spring-held top is still tight . . . great peened pins and tool marks throughout.
It stands 26-1/2" tall and 8-3/4" across the bell.
