 Sherenschnitte

Presented here, a very fine Sherenschnitte and Pin Prick of the initials "BM".  The Sherenschnitte picture  (shear-n-SNIT- a), which means "scissor cuts" in German is the art of papercutting design. The art work often has symmetry within the design, and common forms include silhouettes, valentines, and love letters. The art tradition was founded in Switzerland and Germany in the 1500's, and was brought to Colonial America in the 1700s by immigrants who settled primarily in Pennsylvania.

It is in excellent condition and shows two kissing birds and the initials "EW" within a heart.  The drawing is 2-3/4" x 5" and is framed in a black mat.  The whole is framed in a walnut corner block frame inlaid with ivory. The entire piece measures 12-1/2" x 10".
