Wonderful Rabbitware Tankards

Rabbitware Tankard with Adam's Rose Center and Running Rabbits Border. Condition is excellent.  Tankard is 5-1/2" high.  The patterns may be among the earliest novelty patterns, dating from the third quarter of the 19th century, when the Bullseye Pattern was at its heyday. The popularity of this ware continued for a long time and the introduction of the Sporting Series with the Rabbits doing "people things". . . The anthropomorphized characters played sports, such as cricket, baseball, croquet, tennis and golf, and even drove automobiles!
While luncheon plates are most commonly found, other items include platters and chargers as well as cider mugs and tankards or an exceedingly rare Pitcher.  It is commonly felt that this pottery was made for children's party sets due to the absence of  dinner plates and serving bowls as would be found in a normal dinner service.  It's wonderful and fun to collect.  Don't know that I'd use it for everyday china, but what the heck!
