Mass Bay Pilgrim Treen Candlestick

Original throughout, this is an extremely rare Treen Candleholder dating 1680-1720 . . . the Pilgrim era. It is made in three pieces so it could be disassembled and moved with the owner, utilizing not much space. It is made of chestnut and has the most wonderful original surface with a dark patination acquired over the centuries. Bold turnings, a height of 17-1/2", and a 9" diameter dished base characterize this wonderful candleholder and make it a rarity, not only for its age, but for its form. The aesthetics of the piece are what good design is all about. It transcends centuries. They just don't get any better than this!

The overall condition is outstanding and not surprisingly it does have a crack in the dished base that it wears like a badge of honor. Truly remarkable for its age and timeless in its design. Sturdy, robust, graceful, functional . . . all these apply but don't come close to describing the strength and beauty of the piece.
